Greetings all!
This is my first post here at iPhoneBang so here goes!! It was a tough decision, but after months of deliberation, and a bad flash of my Win-Mo device I finally decided to make the switch – to the iPhone. Lets put this all into perspective – Apple has truly done nothing new at all. Windows Mobile had mobile web, GPS, email client, rich contact manager, media player, appointment manager and ability to sync up to a pc via USB or over-the-air with an exchange server. I was on WinMo since 2002, and went through about 20 or so devices and found myself constantly upgrading from device to device in favor of different form factors, better functionality and ultimately chasing the balance between form and function – a truly difficult feat. Well that’s, to me one of Apple’s triumphs. This small thin device maximises screen real estate, minimises the need for more buttons, and honestly crams some really great tech in that small chassis. This solved my balance issue an I no longer felt the need to juggle 2-3 devices depending on activities. The other thing Apple did really REALLY well is the UI – it is simply the absolute best I’ve ever used – intuitive, simple, and elegant. But enough of the good – on with the bad – what it’s missing, and it’s not Cut and Paste.
- Voice Dialing – I’ve gotten really REALLY spoiled to this over the years and really, MSFT was on the right track with Voice Command. Just something that would allow me to dial a contact by voice WITHOUT interacting with the device itself – and honestly it’s a safety issue.
- MMS – I truly don’t understand the logic here. “AWWW!! Look what our baby girl is doing!” CLICK CLICK SEND – APPLE WTF?? I work, ALOT, and I miss a few things from time to time, and this simple little application TRULY connects me with my family. If a FREE LG can do it, why not an iPhone?? Again, Apple, WTF??!!?
- A2DP- Advance Audio Distribution Protocol – I cycle, I have a ton of iTunes see the connection? I don’t see why this got left out, i guess the iPod commercials wouldn’t be iPod commercials with out the crazy dangly white wires?
So theres my list, c’mon Apple, hook us up!! Commenters, what say you??

On two points, voice dialling can be done with an app download and i completely understand the MMS and i for one don’t want it!
Why not just use email? MMS is something that costs money and along with SMS should be going the way of the dinosaur. More phones need to support email!

The nice thing about MMS is that is cost less then data services, MOST subscribers have it, and almost EVERY phone on the market is capable of doing it. Sending an email is hard to do for my wife when the 1 year old is doing something cute but the 4 year old is running around crazy but MMS is 2 or 3 screen taps and its sent.

Hmm, true true, Im also a fellow Winmo to iPhone switcher – now my biggest gripe with the iPhone is that bloody annoying “text reminder alert” for when you receive a text – and you don’t read it straight away – so it reminds you again…. and then again…!! Grr! is it just me or is that just one of the most annoying features? Please somebody tell me how to disable it!!!

1) MMS should be banned from the pages of human history. No-one uses it, and I thoroughly applaud Apple for making it go away. Taking a pic and emailing it is so simple, your four year old could do it!
2) Apple did nothing new? C’mon behave!
3) I totally agree about the text alert thing. This was a relatively recent introduction, and it REALLY needs an off switch!

I have to agree with the MMS. My kids constantly want to send me snaps. It’s really irritating to have to ‘fudge’ round this all the time. They don’t have or want phones that do email/surf the web etc etc, they just want to send their old mum an MMS.
Voice dialling doesn’t bother me so much, I’m at a slightly advanced age now, where keeping the mind on 1 activity at the time (driving) is more than sufficient! However, I do understand that for some this would be immensely tedious.
If I knew what A2DP was then I could form an opinion, but I don’t, so must mean I don’t miss it a lot!
One thing I don’t miss is the constant fiddling with a device to get it ‘just right’, it’s so relaxing, like having a holiday!
One thing I really miss is the absence of forwarding sms messages, allied to not having copy & paste. Once again, we’re back to other people, who send me texts that I would like to send on. Can’t. Not to have either function seems a bit ridiculous to me in this day and age. After all, if texts are redundant, then don’t have them at all. If they’re not, then please give us full functionality.
Another thing I miss is the good old today screen or plug in. It was a real boon just to switch on, see your next appointment, whether any urgent tasks remain undone, if any new rss feeds have come in etc.
Having said all that, I booted up the Diamond out of a sense of nostalgia, and used it for a couple of days. No way, not going back there, just too tedious, in 2 days it froze 3 times for no apparent reason. I missed 4 calls in that time as it had frozen ‘while asleep’. Life’s too short.

As a fellow coolsmartphone user, I’ve made the jump and I’ll never go back to win mob.
While I agree with your comments about MMS being left out on the standard version, I recently downloaded the FREE app from the apple store that does exactly what you need. Once you’ve downloaded it, you can click one of your points off the list!

There is an app on the app store that does voice dialling (ive downloaded it but never use it! Its called Say Who and after having a play about with it, it does actually work very well)
Also on the MMS side of things there is an app called MMS which accesses your O2 account on the web and downloads your MMS’s into the appplication. While this may not be to everyone’s taste as you need to purchase credit from the developer to send MMS’s it does bridge the gap somewhat and im sure it wont be long before O2 or Apple wise up and improve things.
All in all the apps are getting there, slowly but surely.
Now just Tom Tom Turn by Turn Sat Nav and Copy and Paste and I will be one seriously happy iPhone Owner! (speaking as a recent convert from Windows Mobile to the iPhone im loving things so far, such a joy to use!)
Congrats on the Site, will keep on visiting!

I am sticking with Winmo at the moment, but believe there has to be something better. I had seriously considered the iphone but its handful flaws outweighs what a great device it is. As wadem says: WTF Apple?
I didn’t know there was no voice dialing and that would of been another flaw to my list, but looks like an app download will resolve that one. I am not too bothered about A2DP support but agree that there is no reason Apple couldn’t have inlcuded this.
My main problems are: no MMS, only 2MB Camera, no Flash, no Video. Copy and Paste would be on the list too but I think this has been resolved by an app download?
On the Camera gripes, I could live with a 2MB camera and even not having a Flash might not be a dealbreaker, but no Video … are you kidding!!!
To my mind the iphone should the best multimedia device around. You can store photos and view them on the fantastic interface, but you can’t take any on a night out as there is no flash and 2MB would make it too grainy in low lighting. And then I couldn’t take video of my dog / kids, etc when at the park the next day. Why???

Ok, just found a site offering something called the iphone video recorder (http://www.iphonevideorecorder.com). It is annoying you would have to pay $20’s as it should be supported natively.
So, if someone develops an app for MMS then all my key gripes would be answered (I think).
I do like a physical keyboard mind you but still could be swayed towards an iphone?
Aargh!! what do you think? Someone help with comments?

Just been checking out iphone prices and it seems expensive to move if using O2.
Anyone any advice on the cheapest way to swtich to an iphone?
Also, what data tarrifs do O2 offer?

I too hve gone from windows mobile to iPhone. I’ve had win since spv canary! The only thing I miss is the abilty to fully tweak the device. To decide what reminders and alerts I want and to change the font size, what buttons do what etc etc. That said the iphone just works, it does everyhing with ease and flawless elegance. I’d love win mobile to catch up, however without a bottom up re write it never will. I truely hope for the day when htc write their own os, surely not that far away?
