Apple has released a matrix showing which 3.0 updates work on which iPhone

Nothing that we didn’t know already, but handy just the same

Notes:

  1. Peer-to-peer connectivity requires compatible applications, which can be downloaded from the App Store when available.
  2. The original iPhone does not support using Bluetooth for peer-to-peer connectivity. It can use Wi-Fi and cellular data networks for peer-to-peer connectivity.
  3. MMS is not available in all areas; fees may apply. See your carrier for availability.
  4. Internet tethering is not currently offered in the United States and some other countries. See your carrier for availability.

click the matrix (or here) for the link into the Apple article which will link you through to much more info, also there,s a full 3.0 user guide here in PDF form

I cannot believe the iPhone 2G isn’t getting MMS. That’s outrageous.

It so annoys me O2 are going to charge such a ridiculous amount for tethering. I shouldn’t have to jailbreak the iPhone to be able to get this!

bradavon, a friend of mine and his girlfriend both have iphones (she has an iphone 2G he has a 3G) and he sent her an MMS to test whether she could receive texts or not.

It appeared to be the same as his 3G and the text was received ok. I questioned this but apparently it was true!

    Just a thought.

Agree completely about the tethering. If you had an o2 xda device or some of the newer devices that are out there aka the Diamond 2 then these can be used to tether out of the box.

O2 are getting greedy but this is just restricting the use of the iPhone and its not letting everyone get the full use out of it.

Will see how this goes and see if they have any offers on tethering in the future. Prices surely can only go down from here?
